A final update from CMP says that 11,000 customers were affected. The outage occured at 10:18 a.m. and power was retored by 10:58 a.m., according to the company.

CMP says it has restored power and that the outage lasted about 30 minutes.

PORTLAND — About 19,000 households and businesses in Portland and its northern suburbs are without electricity this morning after a tree fell onto a transmission line, according to Central Maine Power Co.

Strong winds knocked the tree over in Cumberland shortly before 11 a.m., according to Gail Rice, a CMP spokeswoman.

The outage is affecting customers in Portland, Falmouth and Cumberland.

CMP is removing the tree and working to provide power through other transmission lines, Rice said. It expects service to be restored by about 11:30 a.m.
