STANDISH — Emily Leverone had three hits, including a pair of doubles, and drove in three runs to lead St. Joseph’s to a 7-1 victory over the University of New England (23-11) in the second game of a softball doubleheader Tuesday.
Kayla Vannah struck out one batter and did not allow a walk while throwing a five-hitter to earn the win for the Monks (23-7).
Amanda Vaudreuil hit an RBI single in the top of the eighth inning to lift the Nor’easters to a 6-5 win in the opener. Ashley Gott had four hits and drove in one run for UNE. Alyssa Dunn had two hits and three RBI for St. Joseph’s.
PLYMOUTH STATE SWEEPS USM: Heather Blase and Jackie Digman each homered during a three-run sixth inning to break a 6-6 tie and lift the Panthers (15-12) to a 9-6 win over the Huskies (3-26) in the opener at Plymouth, N.H.
Southern Maine trailed 6-3 but rallied to tie the game on a three-run homer by Erin Swarbrick in the top of the sixth.
Plymouth State completed the sweep with a 4-1 victory.
COLBY, HUSSON SPLIT: Amanda Gifford hit an RBI triple with two outs in the top of the 10th inning to lift the Eagles (13-13) to a 2-1 win over the Mules (6-14) in the second game at Waterville.
In the opener, Colby scored twice in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Barbara Santos and an RBI double by Brianne Wheeler and held on for a 2-1 victory. Aimee Polimeno pitched a three-hitter.
BASEBALL
UMASS-BOSTON 9, USM 8: Ryan Walsh hit a three-run homer and the Beacons (10-14, 5-3 Little East) rallied from a 6-1 deficit to edge the Huskies (13-13, 3-5) at Gorham.
Forrest Chadwick went 5 for 5 and scored three runs for the Huskies, and Mike Eaton hit a two-run homer.
MAINE 4, COLBY 2: Joey Martin had three hits and drove in one run to lead the Black Bears (13-20) past the Mules (10-15) at Orono.
Michael Fransoso added two hits and scored twice for Maine.
Colby’s Nikolas Atsalis had three hits, including an RBI single, and Brendon Gallagher had an RBI double.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
USM 13, RIC 7: Lauren Santo and Jackie Kelly scored four goals apiece and Samantha Kiesel had 25 saves to lead Southern Maine (5-8, 3-0 Little East) past Rhode Island College (4-7, 0-4) at Gorham.
MEN’S LACROSSE
COLBY 21, MAINE MARITIME 4: John Jennings had four goals and Greg McKillop and James Wyse each scored three as the Mules (6-6) beat the Mariners (5-4) at Castine.
BOWDOIN 11, BATES 9: Owen Smith scored the tying goal with 9:49 left and Keegan Mellhorn got the winner 46 seconds later as the Polar Bears (5-6, 2-5 NESCAC) rallied past the Bobcats (4-7, 1-6) at Lewiston.
Patrick Lawlor had three goals and an assist for Bowdoin. Luke Charest had three goals for Bates.
ST. JOSEPH’S 9, EMERSON 2: Spencer Hunt and Jonathan Horgan each had two goals and two assists to lead the Monks (9-6, 5-4 GNAC) past the Lions (1-11, 1-5) at Portland.
