WANTAGH, N.Y. — An FBI airplane equipped with sophisticated aerial photography equipment is joining a police search for possible victims of a suspected serial killer on New York’s Long Island.
FBI officials had planned to provide the aircraft on Friday. They changed plans because of clear weather today. An FBI spokesman says a helicopter will join the search Friday.
State and local police, including cadaver dogs and their own helicopters, are scouring miles of tangled brush near Jones Beach after the discovery of 10 sets of human remains since December, including those of Megan Waterman, 22, of Scarborough, Maine. Divers are also searching the waters surrounding the barrier island.
Authorities say some were likely victims of a serial killer. They haven’t ruled out the possibility that separate killers could be responsible.
No suspects have been identified.
