LEWISTON – Bowdoin bounced back to defeat Bates 14-9 and earn a split of a New England Small College Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader Saturday.
Ryan Sonberg hit a two-run double as the Bobcats (11-6, 1-5 NESCAC) scored three runs in the eighth inning to beat the Polar Bears 4-1 in the first game.
In the second game, Matt Ruane hit three singles and a double with three RBI for Bowdoin (7-12, 2-1), and Brendan Garner had two doubles and three RBI.
Noah Lynd had two hits and three RBI for Bates.
ST. JOSEPH’S SWEEPS RIVIER: Dan Achorn hit a two-run homer and Nate Martin added a two-run single during a 12-run fourth inning as the Monks (13-8, 4-0 GNAC) cruised to a 20-1 win over the Raiders (1-13, 0-4) in the opener at Standish.
St. Joseph’s completed the sweep with a 7-2 win, with Todd Keneborus getting two hits, four RBI and two runs scored.
STONY BROOK 8, MAINE 1: Nick Tropeano pitched a two-hitter to help Stony Brook (17-7, 1-0 America East) beat Maine (9-17, 0-1) at Shirley, N.Y.
ECSU SWEEPS USM: Steve Cammuso had five RBI and the Warriors (18-3, 4-0 Little East) scored 10 runs in the final two innings of a 15-5 win over the Huskies (11-9, 2-2) in the opener at Mansfield, Conn.
Eastern Connecticut rallied to win Game 2, 15-8.
Mike Eaton and Josh Mackey each drove four runs on the day for USM.
SMCC SWEEPS CMCC: Donnie Cray’s two-run single rallied the Seawolves (8-12) to a 6-5 victory in the second game after a 7-1 win in the opener at South Portland.
SOFTBALL
UNE SWEEPS NEC: Amber Zablowsky and Erin Lyons each threw a shutout as the Nor’easters (19-5, 12-0 Commonwealth Coast) posted 8-0 and 5-0 victories over the Pilgrims (8-12, 7-5) at Londonderry, N.H.
Erin Grover hit a three-run homer and Megan Gauger knocked in two runs with a single in the opener. Beth Smith drove in two runs in Game 2.
TRINITY SWEEPS BATES: Katherine Stoltenberg hit an RBI double during a two-run second inning to lift the Bantams (14-7, 4-2 NESCAC) to a 3-1 win over the Bobcats (5-7, 1-5) in the opener at Lewiston.
Leah Maciejewski had two hits and scored the Bobcats’ run.
Trinity completed the sweep with a 6-0 win.
BOWDOIN SWEEPS COLBY: Toni DeCampo had a two-run single in the seventh inning to help the Polar Bears (11-13, 4-2 NESCAC) secure a 4-1 win over the Mules (3-10, 0-3) in the opener at Waterville.
Amy Hackett homered, singled, scored three runs and drove in two to lead Bowdoin to a 9-5 win in Game 2.
MAINE, STONY BROOK SPLIT: Kali Burnham had two hits and knocked in four runs as the Black Bears (15-21) took a 13-5 victory in the second game to avoid a sweep by Stony Brook (11-18) at Orono.
Hilary Kane and Brynne Davis each drove in a run for Maine in a 4-2 loss in the second game.
SOUTHERN MAINE CC SWEEPS CENTRAL MAINE CC: Kim Hunt totaled 21 strikeouts and allowed just five hits in pitching the Seawolves (11-13, 6-0 YSCC) to two wins at South Portland.
Becca Roberts hit a three-run homer in a 3-2 first-game victory, then went 2 for 3 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in a 4-2 win.

RIC SWEEPS USM: The Anchormen (17-3, 4-0 Little East) overcame a two-run homer by Katie Davis of the Huskies (2-20, 0-2) to win the second game 3-2 after winning the opener 9-0 at Providence, R.I.
MEN’S LACROSSE
CONN. COLLEGE 9, BATES 5: Stephen Wicher scored four goals for the Camels (4-6, 2-4 NESCAC) against the Bobcats (4-6, 1-5) at Lewiston.
Kevin Helm of Bates caused six turnovers and collected four ground balls.
USM 12, SALEM STATE 5: Tim Bryant had four goals and the Huskies (3-6, 1-1 Little East Conference) scored 10 straight goals in the second half to defeat the Vikings (5-4, 1-1) at Salem, Mass.
Kayle Hamilton added two goals and Mark White had three assists.
WESLEYAN 8, COLBY 7: The Cardinals (7-3, 3-2 NESCAC) overcame a 7-4 deficit to beat the Mules (4-5, 2-4) at Middletown, Conn.
John Jennings had three goals for Colby.
UNE 10, ANNA MARIA 2: Luke DiFiore had three goals and two assists, and the Nor’easters (6-7, 2-4 Commonwealth Coast) built a 4-1 halftime lead and beat the Amcats (4-9, 1-7) at Paxton, Mass.
MIDDLEBURY 16, BOWDOIN 12: David Hild had five goals and three assists to carry the Panthers (6-2, 4-2 NESCAC) past the Polar Bears (3-6, 1-5) at Brunswick.
Owen Smith and Keegan Mehlhorn each scored three goals for the Polar Bears.
ST. JOSEPH’S 25, RIVIER 2: Spencer Hunt had six goals and four assists as the Monks (6-6, 1-2 GNAC) beat the Raiders (0-5, 0-3) at Nashua, N.H.

BATES 15, CONN. COLLEGE 11: Jenna Dannis had six goals and Jenn Brallier scored five to lead the Bobcats (6-4, 3-3 NESCAC) over the Camels (3-7, 0-6) at New London, Conn.
COLBY 13, WESLEYAN 7: Sarah Lux had four goals and three assists, and the Mules (8-2, 4-2 NESCAC) raced out to a 7-1 lead and held off the Cardinals (5-6, 0-6) at Waterville.
MIT 18, USM 7: Shelby Turcotte had three goals for USM (2-8) in a loss to the Engineers (7-3) at Cambridge, Mass.
MIDDLEBURY 16, BOWDOIN 12: Chase Delano and Elizabeth Garry each scored four times as the Panthers (7-2, 4-1 NESCAC) held off a late rally to beat the Polar Bears (8-2, 4-2) at Middlebury, Vt.
