BIDDEFORD – The University of New England totaled 26 hits in beating Salve Regina 6-5 and 11-6 in a Commonwealth Coast Conference softball doubleheader Thursday.
In the opener, the Nor’easters (17-5, 10-0 CCC) went ahead 5-4 in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Marie Mantelli, who later scored on an error.
UNE scored four runs in the second inning on a two-run double by Erin Lyons and a two-run single by Casey Brigham.
In Game 2, Maegen Johnson had four hits against the Sea-hawks (8-16, 6-8), and Johnson, Casey Brigham and Ashley Gott each scored three runs.
SALEM STATE SWEEPS USM: The Vikings (13-10) won the opener 9-3 and the second game 9-7 at South Portland to extend their winning streak to 13 games.
Sarah Deroche five hits on the day for the Huskies (2-18), and Katie Davis drove in three runs.
BOWDOIN SWEEPS UM-FARMINGTON: The Polar Bears (8-13) won the opener 1-0 and forced the mercy rule in the second game with an 11-0, five-inning victory at Brunswick.
Melissa DellaTorre pitched a four-hitter in the opener and Amy Hackett had an RBI single in the seventh inning.
In the second game, Tricia Thibodeau pitched a one-hitter.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
LASELL 13, ST. JOSEPH’S 6: Ashley Slattery had four goals as the Lasers (6-4, 3-1) beat the Monks (3-3, 0-3) at Portland.
Emily Wight and Alyssa Marchant each had two goals for the Monks.
BASEBALL
SALEM STATE 8, USM 2: The Vikings (9-9) scored all of their runs in the third inning to defeat the Huskies (11-7) at South Portland.
Tucker White and Jordan Berthiaume each had two hits for the Huskies.
COLBY 13, HUSSON 1: Nikolas Atsalis had four hits, including a three-run homer, and Richard Newton had four hits with three runs scored as the White Mules (7-10) routed the Eagles (13-11) at Waterville.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
KANSAS: Twins Marcus and Markieff Morris hired an agent and will skip their senior seasons to enter the NBA draft.
MEN’S HOCKEY
NCAA TOURNAMENT: J.T. Brown had a goal and an assist to lead Minnesota-Duluth to a 4-3 victory over Notre Dame in the semifinals at St. Paul, Minn.
• Ben Winnett scored a first-period goal and Shawn Hunwick made 40 saves as Michigan advanced to the final with a 2-0 win over North Dakota.
