STANDISH – The St. Joseph’s softball team swept a doubleheader from the University of Southern Maine on Wednesday, taking a 9-0 victory in five innings in the opener and a 6-3 win in the second game.

Kayla Vannah pitched a one-hitter in the first game. Alyssa Dunn and Katelyn Call each had two hits and two RBI, and Connie Grovo added a double, two runs and an RBI.

St. Joseph’s got out to a 5-0 lead in the second game. Danyelle Shufelt had three hits and scored twice. Lindsay Moore had two doubles, scored a run and knocked in another.

Kayla Ferrara went 3 for 3 with a double and a home run for Southern Maine. Sarah Deroche went 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBI.

BASEBALL

NORTHERN ESSEX 6, SOUTHERN MAINE CC 3: Domingo Cruz hit a two-run homer in the first inning and the Knights held off the Seawolves (6-12) at South Portland.

Scott Madden went 3 for 5 with two RBI for the Seawolves.

ST. JOSEPH’S SWEEPS LASELL: Mike Pratt had a two-run double as the Monks (11-7) jumped to a 4-0 first-inning lead and completed a sweep of the Lasers (10-8) with a 6-2 victory at Standish.

Alex Lorenc had an RBI double, and Ian Lee, Chris Campbell and Todd Keneborus each had an RBI single.

Chad Rafferty allowed one hit and struck out seven in five innings as the Monks won the opener, 4-0. Keneborus had an RBI single and scored twice.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

BATES 20, USM 6: Joan O’Neill had five goals as the Bobcats (5-4) pulled away from the Huskies (2-7) at Lewiston.

Mary Vaughn and Jackie Kelly each scored two goals for Southern Maine.

ENDICOTT 20, UNE 6: Hannah Tavella had three goals for the Nor’easters (3-8, 2-5 Commonwealth Coast) against the Gulls (8-3, 7-0) at Biddeford.

BOWDOIN 10, COLBY 9: McKenna Teague scored with 6 seconds remaining in overtime as the Polar Bears (8-1, 4-1 NESCAC) edged the Mules (7-2, 3-2 NESCAC) at Waterville.

MEN’S LACROSSE

ENDICOTT 20, UNE 6: Luke DiFiore had three goals for the Nor’easters (5-7, 1-4 Commonwealth Coast) against the Gulls (8-2, 6-0) at Biddeford.

COLBY 11, BOWDOIN 10: Mark Squicciarino scored with 1:23 left in overtime to lift Colby (4-4, 2-3 NESCAC) over Bowdoin (3-5, 1-4) at Waterville.

MOUNT IDA 13, ST. JOSEPH’S 6: Zachary Chaisson had three goals for the Monks (5-6, 0-2 GNAC) against the Mustangs (3-7, 2-0) at Portland.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

DUKE: Point guard Kyrie Irving is leaving after one season to enter the NBA draft. Coach Mike Krzyzewski said Irving plans to hire an agent, ending his college career.
