SACO — The city councilor running for mayor resigned from the council last night.

Ward 4 Councilor Jeff Christenbury, 26, submitted his letter of resignation Monday morning. Having recently purchased a home outside of Ward 4, Christenbury said he had to resign because the city charter does not allow councilors to represent wards they do not live in.

“I plan on staying involved (on committees) and going to every meeting,” he said.

The move does not change his plan to run for mayor in the November election, Christenbury said.

Councilors are expected to discuss the appointment of a councilor for Ward 4 during a workshop Wednesday. An official appointment will be announced at the next council meeting.
