PORTLAND — The city will get technical assistance to help develop its Complete Streets policy under a federal program designed to make communities more sustainable and livable.
Portland is one of 32 communities in 26 states to win the technical help under the Environmental Protection Agency’s Sustainable Communities Building Blocks Program.
The EPA will pay for a daylong session with private-sector experts to help develop a Complete Streets policy and other strategies aimed at creating environmentally responsible and economically healthy development.
The City Council has endorsed the Complete Streets goal, which aims at building or rebuilding streets to accommodate cars, public transportation, bikers and walkers.
