GORHAM – The Gorham Town Council, in a special meeting Monday, appointed Connie Loughran acting town clerk to fill a vacancy left by Christina Silberman, who resigned last week.
Town Councilor Brenda Caldwell administered the oath of office. Loughran has served as deputy town clerk and a customer service clerk.
The action came after the Town Council met in executive session for about 15 minutes to discuss Silberman’s resignation. After reconvening its special meeting, the panel accepted the resignation 6-0, with Town Councilor Mike Phinney absent.
Matt Robinson, chairman of the council, thanked Silberman for her service. “She did the town justice,” Robinson said.
After six years as Gorham’s town clerk, Silberman submitted her resignation on March 22 and since has been on vacation. Her resignation becomes effective Friday, April 1.
Laurie Nordfors, an assistant town clerk, was appointed motor vehicle municipal agent for the town.
The Town Council also approved accepting $19,000 as its share in a criminal case in which Gorham police participated.
“We can use that for equipment purchases,” Gorham Police Chief Ron Shepard said.
