Public concert, a performance of “The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass” by renowned composer Carol Barnett, by students from South Portland, Westbrook, Massabesic and Oxford Hills high schools, 4 p.m., at the South Portland High School auditorium. Singers will be accompanied by a bluegrass band. Tickets available at the door. $5 per person; $15 maximum for families.

Dinner and live auction, to benefit U.S. Naval Sea Cadets, Portland Division, at Maine Military Museum, 50 Perry Terrace, South Portland. Catered by Dave’s Famous BBQ with auction, raffle and prizes. Wednesday, April 6

Scarborough Historical Society, 7:30 p.m., at the Scarborough Historical Museum located at Dunstan Corner next to the fire station. The presenter will be Kevin Mills. He is known best as an award-winning newspaper journalist and the author of a book entitled “Sons and Daughters of the Ocean.” This book is based on his family genealogy. Through his research he discovered some family members had been privateers, shipbuilders, merchant mariners and lighthouse keepers. He will describe this genealogical work and the resulting book. Refreshments will be served and the public is always welcome.
