HERSHEY, Pa. – Mark Parrish scored with 2:09 left in overtime and also had two assists as the Portland Pirates rallied from a 3-1 deficit to take a 4-3 win over the Hershey Bears in front of 10,737 at the Giant Center on Saturday night.
T.J. Brennan sent it to overtime with a power-play goal with 5:50 left in regulation.
Matt Ellis and Paul Byron also scored for the Pirates, who improved to 42-18-5-2 and moved into a first-place tie with Manchester in the AHL Atlantic Division after the Monarchs’ 2-1 overtime loss to Bridgeport on Saturday.
Luke Adam and Nick Crawford each provided two assists for Portland.
Patrick McNeill had a goal and two assist for Hershey, which fell to 42-22-2-5. Andrew Joudrey and Andrew Gordon also scored.
Braden Holtby made 27 saves for Hershey.
Joudrey got Hershey on the board less than two minutes into the game. Ellis answered with a power-play goal at 6:11 of the first. The Bears regained the lead three minutes later as McNeill netted his sixth of the year after receiving a pass from Francois Bouchard, also coming with the man advantage.
Hershey had a chance to add to its lead but was unable to score during a five-minute power play. The Bears also had a two-man advantage for 1:49 early in the second period but could not beat Portland goaltender David Leggio (27 saves).
“That five-minute kill was big for us,” Portland Coach Kevin Dineen said. “They did get two power-play goals, and we got two, but to kill off the five and then 1:49 of five-on-three were key for us.”
