A Carrabassett Valley selectman was arrested on a drunken-driving charge in Portland’s Old Port on Sunday night after a restaurant employee refused to serve him alcohol and called police.

Stephen Pierce, 60, was released from the Cumberland County Jail on Monday morning on $3,500 unsecured bond.

The restaurant employee said Pierce was highly intoxicated and had driven to the restaurant, where he was refused alcohol, said Lisa Boisvert, a Portland police crime analyst.

Police found Pierce’s pickup truck in the parking lot across the street from the Fore Street restaurant, Boisvert said, and found Pierce in the restaurant showing signs of being intoxicated.

Pierce submitted to a Breathalyzer, which showed his blood alcohol content was 0.27 percent — more than three times the legal limit, Boisvert said. He was arrested about 5 p.m. and charged with drunken driving.

According to the report, Pierce “was very confrontational,” Boisvert said.

Pierce, a longtime selectman, is scheduled to appear in court in Portland on April 7.

Town officials in Carrabassett Valley referred questions on Pierce’s town service to Town Manager Dave Cota, who did not return calls Wednesday. Pierce did not return calls.
