PORTLAND — The University of New England outscored the University of Southern Maine 6-1 in the second half to pull out a 12-8 victory Tuesday in a women’s lacrosse game at Fitzpatrick Stadium.
Danielle Cate had four goals to lead the Nor’easters (1-1). Jessy Dvorak scored both of her goals and Hannah Tavella added two of her three in the second half, and Angel Jarmusz also scored twice.
Rosie Forster had four goals and Lauren Santo added two for the Huskies (0-1).
MEN’S LACROSSE
BATES 10, UNE 4: Dan Hines and Rob Highland each had two goals and the Bobcats (2-1) built a 7-0 lead and beat the visiting Nor’easters (1-1) at Lewiston.
Hines scored consecutive unassisted goals near the end of the first quarter after setting up Paul Donovan. Highland scored just over a minute into the game to help Bates build a 6-0 lead after one period.
Dan O’Gorman had two goals for UNE.
BASEBALL
FLORIDA STATE 10, MAINE 2: The Seminoles (11-1) took a 4-0 lead in the first inning on two-run singles by Jayce Boyd and Stuart Tapley and defeated the Black Bears (3-10) at Tallahassee, Fla.
Michael Fransoso had two hits for Maine, including a home run, and Taylor Lewis drove in the other run with a sacrifice fly.
SOFTBALL
SOUTH FLORIDA SWEEPS MAINE: The Bulls (13-10) won the opener 8-4 and scored seven runs in the first inning of the second game for a 9-1 win in five innings at Tampa, Fla.
Kali Burnham had three hits and Jenny MacDowell had two hits with two RBI in the opener for Maine (7-15). Terren Hall had a two hits for the Black Bears in the second game.
WOMEN’S SKIING
U.S. CHAMPIONSHIPS: Katie Keough of Cumberland, a junior at the University of Maine at Farmington, won the women’s giant slalom snowboard event at the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association national championships at Sun Valley, Idaho.
Keough’s two-run time of 1 minute, 51.6 seconds was four-tenths of a second faster than Loyola Marymount’s Kaylee Taylor.
