GORHAM – Representatives of Marca Manufacturing asked Gorham planners Monday to expedite its review of a proposed building expansion in the Gorham Industrial Park.

The company plans to relocate its Marca Coating Technologies to Gorham from leased space in Scarborough.

The company on Monday unveiled its plans to the Gorham Planning Board for a 19,500-square-foot addition at Knowlton Machine, 5 Sanford Drive. Planners will set a date for a site walk and schedule a public hearing for the Marca request.

The company acquired Knowlton Machine in November.

With its lease ending in less than a year in Scarborough, Marca officials attending Monday’s meeting stressed the importance of time. Larry Zuckerman, Marca’s vice president of operations, asked Gorham planners for a second meeting this month.

“We’ll work 24 hours a day to get you the information you need,” Zuckerman said.

The Planning Board, which usually meets once monthly, scheduled an extra meeting for Monday, March 21, to review the Marca proposal.

Planning Board member Tom Hughes said most commercial projects in Gorham are put on a fast track.

“Business coming into Gorham is important,” Hughes said.

Project manager Dustin Roma of Sebago Technics presented details Monday for the expansion proposal on the 4.6-acre Knowlton Machine site.

Roma said the expansion would merge two companies under one roof. Roma hoped for a construction start “immediately – as soon as we can.”

Roma said Marca hopes to occupy the expansion by February 2012.

“They’re very excited to be moving to Gorham,” Roma said.

Besides the building addition, plans call for adding 54 parking spaces for a total of 121, along with landscaping.

“Everyone is chomping at the bit to get going,” Marca owner Frederick Veitch said following Monday’s meeting.

The company’s products include decorative packaging services for cosmetic companies. Veitch said its customers include Proctor and Gamble, Avon and L’Oreal.

“They have a number of European clients,” Roma told planners.

Larry Zuckerman, vice president of operations at Marca Coating Technologies, asks Gorham Planning Board Monday for another meeting this month to review its request for an addition to property it bought in Gorham Industrial Park.
