STANDISH – The Bonny Eagle Scots had a strong indoor track season this winter, with the Scot girls capturing the SMAA championship and narrowly losing to Scarborough at the Class A state championships. The Scot boys finished a close third at the SMAAs and followed that up with a third place finish at the state championships.
Befitting a team that finished so strongly, the postseason indoor track all-star lists recently released by the Southwestern Maine Activities Association is littered with members of both Bonny Eagle teams.
For the girls, the Scots’ Peyton Dostie led the way, being named a postseason all-star in four events. Dostie was recognized for her performance in the high jump, the senior hurdles, the open 300 and the senior 400.
Not to be outdone, Dostie’s sister, Amber, also made her way onto multiple all-star lists with selections for her work in the senior 800 and the 2-mile run this winter. Morgan Costa was another member of the Scots’ squad with multiple entries on the SMAA’s honor roll. She was named a postseason all-star in both the senor 40-yard dash and the open 300.
The Scots’ Audrey Weyland also had two selections, in the junior 40-yard dash and the junior 400. Bonny Eagle got single all-star mentions from Mary Szatowski (2-mile), Jessica Warren (junior 40-yard dash), Nicole Kepron (open 600), Samantha Cox (junior 800) and the senior relay team.
Gorham’s Sarah Perkins got two mentions on the list, as she was selected as an all-star in both the high jump and the senior hurdles. Her Ram teammate Clara Stickney was named a pole vault all-star and Westbrook’s Audrey Cobb was honored for the senior shot put.
On the boys side, Bonny Eagle’s Tyson Goodale was the most-honored local athlete with four postseason all-star selections. He was recognized by the SMAA for the triple jump, the long jump, the junior hurdles and the junior 200.
Right behind Goodale on the list of local honorees was Westbrook’s Manny Vincent, who garnered three all-star mentions. He was named to the all-star list in the senior 400, the high jump and the triple jump.
Other local boys honored by the SMAA included: Bonny Eagle’s James Patchell (junior 800), Bonny Eagle’s Kyle Bailey (senior hurdles), the Scots’ Nate Martel (senior shot put), Bonny Eagle’s Joey Collins (open 600), Gorham’s Jesse Orach (2-mile), the Bonny Eagle open relay team, Westbrook’s Magnes Lewis (high jump), the Rams’ Kameron Alexander (high jump) and Westbrook’s John Grondin (pole vault).
