PORTLAND — Deering High head football coach Greg Stilphen has resigned after 14 seasons.

Stilphen, 51, made his decision over school vacation week and told his team Monday.

Deering had an 8-3 record last fall and lost to eventual state champion Cheverus, 35-34, in the Western Maine Class A final.

“it was time to move on and do some of the things I haven’t been able to do,” said Stilphen.
