BRUNSWICK – The NCAA announced sectional sites for the third- and fourth-round games of the Division III NCAA women’s basketball tournament on Sunday, and Bowdoin will be playing at Amherst, Mass.
The Polar Bears will face Babson in the early game Friday at Amherst College. In the second game, Amherst will face Muhlenberg with the winners playing Saturday for a trip to the Final Four. Game times and ticket information will be announced today.
UNE 79, USM 67: Kelley Paradis scored 18 points and Carrie Bunnell added 16 points and seven rebounds to lead the top-seeded Nor’easters (24-7) past the second-seeded Huskies (18-11) in the ECAC Division III New England championship at Biddeford.
Lauren Rousseau and Courtney Cochran each finished with 17 points to lead the Huskies.
SOFTBALL
QUINNIPIAC 1, MAINE 0: Jordan Paolucci was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the top of the third inning to lift the Bobcats (7-6) over the Black Bears (7-12) at the USF Invitational at Clearwater, Fla.
Terren Hall went 2 for 3 with a walk for the Black Bears and Maine starter Ashley Kelley scattered eight hits and struck out five in a complete game.
MEN’S HOCKEY
BOWDOIN 5, WILLIAMS 2: Nick Wetzel and Daniel Weiniger each scored less than one minute apart early in the first period and Steve Messina finished with 47 saves for the No. 5 seed Polar Bears (18-7-1) as they downed the second-seeded Ephs (16-8-3) in Williamstown, Mass., to clinch their first NESCAC championship.
Bowdoin clinched its second straight trip to the NCAA Division III tournament.
BASEBALL
MAINE 5, ROLLINS 4: Michael Fransoso hit a walk-off RBI double that scored Colin Gay in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Black Bears (3-8) to a win over the Tars (11-5) at Winter Park, Fla.
Trailing 3-0, Maine rallied to tie the game in the third inning on an RBI single by Joey Martin and a two-run homer from Fran Whitten.
Rollins regained the lead in the fifth inning but the Black Bears evened the score when Gay was hit by a pitch and scored on a wild pitch in the seventh. D.J. Voisine closed out the game with two shutout innings to earn the win for the Black Bears.
SOUTHERN MAINE 29, MOUNT ST. VINCENT 4: Forrest Chadwick had five hits, including two doubles and a home run, and drove in five runs to lead the Huskies (1-1) as they cruised past the Dolphins (1-4) at Yaphank, N.Y.
Mike Eaton added two homers and four RBI for USM, which finished with 31 hits, including six home runs.
MEN’S LACROSSE
UNE 15, HUSSON 4: Luke DiFiore scored three goals and assisted on three others to lead the Nor’easters past the Eagles in a season opener at Deering High’s Memorial Field.
Tyler Thomas added two goals and three assists for UNE, which led 10-2 at halftime.
