Light precipitation that produced patches of black ice caught some drivers off guard this morning.
Authorities in York County reported a number of minor accidents due to black ice, even though light rain was falling. Maine State Police also reported a few minor slide offs.
Temperatures have climbed throughout the morning. Chris Kimble at the National Weather Service in Gray said temperatures are not expected to drop below freezing until Tuesday morning.
The forecast for the weekend includes light rain through Sunday with heavier bands of rain moving in Sunday night into Monday, Kimble said.
While travelers may not have to contend with black ice, Kimble said people should be aware of flooding. Rain waters may be slow to run off if urban drains are still clogged with snow piles, he said.
The National Weather Service is still working on exact rainfall estimates. Kimble said the state could receive anywhere from 1 to 2 inches.
