WAYNE, N.J. – Colby had 8-0 runs to end the first half and open the second, then held off Stevens Institute of Technology for a 58-48 victory in the first round of the NCAA Division III women’s basketball tournament Friday night.
Diana Manduca had 13 points and Aarika Ritchie scored 12 for the Mules (22-5), who wiped out a 15-9 deficit with a 12-0 run in the first half. Rachael Mack added nine points and 12 rebounds.
Victoria Webber had 16 points for the Ducks (21-7).
AMHERST 102, HUSSON 44: Jaclyn Daigneault scored 23 points and the Jeffs (27-1) cruised past the Eagles (16-12) in an NCAA Division III regional game at Amherst, Mass.
Amanda Gifford led Husson with 15 points.
(4) TENNESSEE 92, FLORIDA 75: Glory Johnson scored a career-high 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Tennessee (29-2) beat Florida (18-14) in the Southeastern Conference quarterfinals at Nashville, Tenn.
(8) DUKE 79, WAKE FOREST 50: Freshman Richa Jackson scored a season-high 15 points, helping Duke (27-3) defeat Wake Forest (15-17) in the Atlantic Coast Conference quarterfinals at Greensboro, N.C.
(10) MIAMI 93, N.C. STATE 85: Shenise Johnson had 25 points and 13 rebounds as Miami (27-3) pulled away late to beat North Carolina State (14-17) in the ACC quarterfinals at Greensboro, N.C.
(11) MICHIGAN STATE 56, NORTHWESTERN 25: Porsche Poole scored 11 points and Michigan State (26-4) held Northwestern (18-13) to the lowest point total in the 17-year history of the Big Ten tournament to win a quarterfinal at Indianapolis.
GEORGIA TECH 70, (13) MARYLAND 64: Alex Montgomery scored 17 points, including a key three-point play down the stretch, to help Georgia Tech (23-9) rally past Maryland (23-7) in the ACC quarterfinals at Greensboro, N.C.
(19) NORTH CAROLINA 78, (14) FLORIDA STATE 65: Laura Broomfield had 15 points and 11 rebounds to help North Carolina (24-7) beat Florida State (23-7) in the ACC quarterfinals at Greensboro, N.C.
(16) KENTUCKY 60, LSU 58: A’dia Mathies scored on a three-point play with 38.8 seconds left, and Kentucky (23-7) edged LSU (19-13) in the Southeastern Conference quarterfinals at Nashville, Tenn.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
SOUTHERN MAINE CC 66, WILLIAMSON 63: Coleman Findlay had 27 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Seawolves (19-12) past the Mechanics (20-8) in the consolation round of the USCAA Division II tournament at Uniontown, Pa.
Findlay passed Greg Smith as SMCC’s career scoring leader.
MEN’S HOCKEY
NORWICH 4, USM 0: Scott Schroeder had a goal and two assists as the top-seeded Cadets (19-5-3) beat the sixth-seeded Huskies (8-13-5) in the ECAC semifinals at Northfield, Vt.
USM’s Braely Torris had 39 saves to finish with school single-season records of 754 saves and a .917 save percentage.
SOFTBALL
JACKSONVILLE 2, MAINE 1: Cassie Hodgson had a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning for the Black Bears (6-9), but the Dolphins (11-8) held on for a win at Clearwater, Fla.
Kali Burnham and Dagmar Ralphs each went 2 for 3 for Maine. Beth Spoehr struck out four while allowing two hits in five innings.
