BIDDEFORD – Police arrested a 23-year-old man for aggravated assault Thursday night in a fight over gasoline money.

Police said they received a call from a man on Pine Street who said he had been involved in a fight and both he and the other man involved in the fight were bleeding. Police found a lot of blood in the yard and in a stairway, said JoAnne Fisk, Biddeford’s deputy police chief.

Fisk said Rafael Ocasio Jr., 23, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He was taken to the York County Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned shortly via teleconference in Biddeford District Court.

Police said the victim of the assault, who lived in the same building as Ocasio, but a different apartment, had been occassionally driving Ocasio to work. The fight started after Ocasio argued that the $8 he had paid the victim for gas money was too much, according to police.

The victim was taken to Maine Medical Center, Fisk said, and was reported to be in stable condition with non-life-threatening injures. Fisk said early this afternoon that she had no further information on the victim’s condition.
