GORHAM – The owner of Scarborough-based Marca Coating Technologies LLC has announced the company is moving to Gorham early next year.

Frederick Veitch, owner of the company, said Tuesday it purchased the Knowlton Machine Co. in Gorham at the end of 2010. Plans call for the addition of a 20,000-square-foot warehouse, as well as perhaps around 30 new jobs.

Veitch said the addition would allow for the expansion of Knowlton Machine. It would also allow Marca Coating Technologies to relocate to Gorham. Veitch said the company’s lease in Scarborough is up in February 2012. The company develops machines that create decorations utilized by cosmetic companies in packaging.

The Gorham Planning Board will consider Veitch’s expansion request Monday, March 7, at 7 p.m., in Gorham Municipal Center, 75 South St., Gorham.

Under Marca Manufacturing, LLC, Veitch’s company is asking the town of Gorham for permission to construct a 19,500-square-foot addition to its building at 5 Sanford Drive in the Gorham Industrial Park.

Tom Ellsworth, director of the Gorham Economic Development Corp., said Wednesday that Marca has 21 employees now with an estimated 55 employees in the future.

“It’s new jobs, new tax base,” Ellsworth said. “It’s what we’re in business to do.”

The existing 24,000-square-foot structure in Gorham now housing Knowlton Machine Co. was built in 1990. The proposed Marca addition nearly doubles the size of the facility.

Besides the addition, the proposal includes paved access drives, loading and parking areas for an additional 104 vehicles. According to letter on Feb. 1 to the town, Dustin Roma, the project manager of Sebago Technics, said the site had parking for 67 vehicles when it was developed in 1989.

Veitch also announced future plans to build another 15,000- to 20,000-square-foot addition.

According to Gorham online tax records, the 5 Sanford Drive site was purchased by Maine Commercial Holdings, LLC, of New Gloucester on Nov. 19 from Trudel Realty Company LLC for $1,750,000.
