In a special election for House District 11 held on Tuesday, Republican Beth Turner of Burlington defeated two opponents to win the seat.
The election was held to replace State Rep. Everett McLeod of Lee, who passed away in December.
Turner received 697 votes and her opponents, Deanna House of Lee, a Democrat, received 557 votes and write-in Republican Phil Merletti of Lee, received 106, according to unofficial tallies.
The House Republicans hold 78 seats, the Democrats have 72 and one member is unenrolled.
