SHARKS NOTES: The Sharks, embroiled in a race with the Connecticut Whale and the Springfield Falcons for the final playoff spot in the Atlantic Division, snapped a three-game losing streak with a 5-2 win Sunday afternoon against the Manchester Monarchs, the division leader. After playing 49 games with NHL parent San Jose, Jamie McGinn has scored seven goals and has four assists in 13 games with Worcester. In nine games against the Pirates, T.J. Trevelyan has four goals and four assists. In his last four games, former NHL goal-scoring champion Jonathan Cheecho has a goal and two assists.
PIRATES NOTES: Three of the Pirates’ five wins against the Sharks have come in shootouts. Last Friday night, Portland goalie Jhonas Enroth made 44 saves during a 3-2 shootout win at the DCU Center in Worcester. Left wing Mark Mancari, who leads the AHL with 32 goals, and Derek Whitmore each has seven goals and three assists against the Sharks. With nine goals and 31 assists, Marc-Andre Gragnani is tied for fourth in scoring among AHL defensemen. Since returning to the Pirates after spending nearly five weeks with NHL parent Buffalo Sabres, rookie Luke Adam has five goals and nine assists in 17 games.
