WISCASSET — An inmate held on arson and other charges died at Two Bridges Regional jail this morning, an apparent suicide.

Robi K. Saputra, 21, of Topsham, was found hanging in his jail cell at 2:18 a.m. by jail personnel, according to Maine State Police spokesman Steve McCausland.

Saputra was arrested in August 2010 in connection with a fire at the Brunswick Naval Air Station Annex. He was also being held on drug charges.

Assistant Correctional Administrator Major Mark Anderson confirmed the death of but referred all other questions to a Maine State Police detective who is investigating the incident.

McCausland said state police investigate all inmate deaths that occur in the state correctional system.

He said Saputra’s body will be taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta for autopsy.
