PORTLAND — Top-ranked Deering High overcame a slow start Saturday night to advance to its fourth consecutive Western Class A girls’ basketball final, beating No. 5 Sanford 51-45 at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
The Rams fell behind 11-2 but charged back to claim the lead by the end of the first quarter. They took control in the third, holding Sanford to nine points.
Kayla Burchill led Deering with 21 points.
