Three Lewiston High players and two from Thornton Academy make up more than half of the semifinalists for the Travis Roy Award, presented by the Maine Class A Hockey Coaches Association.

The award is presented annually to an outstanding senior hockey player from a Class A team in Maine.

Representing the West among the semifinalists are Thornton forwards Sam Canales and Jon Pate, Biddeford defenseman Eric Gagne and South Portland defenseman Tommy Ellis.

From the East are St. Dominic forward Alex Parker, along with the Lewiston trio of goalie Cam Poussard and forwards Colt Steele and Sam Cloutier.

Pate (23 points) and Canales (20) are the team leaders for Thornton, seeded second in the West. Gagne (12 points) has been a defensive leader for the defending state champion Tigers. Ellis has captained South Portland for three years, helping lead the Red Riots back to being a contender.

Steele (47 points), Cloutier (46) and Parker (36) are three of the leading scorers in the state, and Poussard leads all goalies with a 0.73 goals-against average and a 96 save percentage.

The four finalists for the award will be announced after the state championship game March 12, and the winner will be announced March 27.
