WHALE NOTES: The Providence Bruins snapped Connecticut’s three-game winning streak Saturday night by pulling out a 5-4 win in a shootout outdoors before a AHL-record 21,673 people at Rentschler Field in East Hartford. Right wing Jeremy Williams leads Connecticut with 25 goals. Against the Pirates, center Chad Kolarik, who played three games against Portland while with Springfield, has five goals and four assists. Former Pirate Tim Kennedy has three goals and two assists in six games against his old team.
PIRATES NOTES: The Pirates, coming off one-goal road losses to Providence and Manchester, have earned points in five of their six games against the Whale. Left wing Mark Mancari, who carries a three-game points streak into the game, leads the AHL with 31 goals. Defenseman T.J. Brennan has scored goals in five of his last six games. Rookie Luke Adam is riding a six-game points streak.
