Almagro eliminates Robredo to reach final in Copa Claro on long day in Buenos Aires
Nicolas Almagro beat Tommy Robredo 7-5, 6-1 on Saturday to reach the final of the Copa Claro in Buenos Aires. Almagro played two matches on Saturday after rain washed out play Friday. In the quarterfinal played earlier, he beat Jose Acasuso 7-5, 6-3.
Robredo beat David Nalbandian 6-4, 6-4 in a quarterfinal. Chela beat Albert Montanes 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 and Wawrinka beat Juan Monaco 7-5, 6-3 in their quarterfinals.
REGIONS MORGAN KEEGAN CHAMPIONSHIPS: Milos Raonic beat Mardy Fish 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in the semifinals in Memphis, Tenn.
OPEN 13: Marin Cilic defeated Mikhail Youzhny 6-2, 1-6, 7-5 to reach the final in Marseille, France.
DUBAI CHAMPIONSHIP: Caroline Wozniacki beat Jelena Jankovic 7-5, 6-3 to reach in the final in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL: Abby Shea scored 17 points and Jasmin Amaral added 11 to lead Portsmouth Abbey to a 49-29 win over Berwick Academy at South Berwick.
The Ravens (10-7, 9-2 Eastern Independent League) pulled away with an 18-2 run in the final six minutes.
Juliana Blais and Nicole Kleinmann each had eight points for the Bulldogs (4-16, 3-12).
SKIING
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS: Marlies Schild led an Austrian 1-2 finish in the women’s slalom at the world championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. Kathrin Zettel took the silver .34 seconds behind and Maria Pietilae-Holmner earned bronze, .65 seconds back.
GOLF
AVANTHA MASTERS: Pablo Larrazabal eagled the 18th hole in fading light to take the clubhouse lead of the third round in New Delhi. Larrazabal’s 6-under 66 gave him an 11-under 205 total and a one-stroke lead over SSP Chowrasia (67) and Sujjan Singh (68) and Rafa Echenique (67) at the combined European and Asian tour event.
LPGA THAILAND: Yani Tseng shot a 2-under 70 for a one-shot lead after the third round in Pattaya, Thailand. Tseng to a 9-under 207 total, one better than Michelle Wie (71).
SOCCER
FA CUP: American goalkeeper Tim Howard saved a crucial penalty for Everton in its shootout win over defending champion Chelsea in the FA Cup fourth round Saturday.
After the match finished 1-1 following extra time, the United States international brought Everton back into the shootout by batting away Nicolas Anelka’s attempt on Chelsea’s third kick.
Ashley Cole then sent his kick over the crossbar, allowing Phil Neville to convert the winning spot kick for Everton and complete a 4-3 shootout victory.
Everton play Reading in the fifth round on March 1.
Manchester United required a headed goal by defender Wes Brown to edge past nonleague side Crawley 1-0 in a last-16 match.
Crawley plays in the fifth tier and is 93 places below United in the league ladder, but took the 11-time champions all the way at Old Trafford.
In the two other fifth-round matches, Premier League sides Birmingham and Stoke eased to 3-0 home wins over Sheffield Wednesday and Brighton, both in England’s third tier.
