PORTLAND — Maine officials say tourism rebounded last summer after a tough 2009, with overnight and day visitors on the rise.
Tourism officials today recapped the 2010 season and unveiled three new initiatives for this year at the Maine Governor’s Conference on Tourism in Portland.
The Maine Office of Tourism said about 23.2 million people visited Maine last summer. There was a 14 percent upturn in overnight visitors over 2009, and a 9 percent increase in day trippers.
According to the Bangor Daily News, tourism officials are planning campaigns this year aimed at linking tourists with performing arts and the state’s best-known artisans. The state is also launching a mobile device app about lobsters, including information on how to cook them and where to buy them.
