DEXTER — A 37-year-old Maine man is facing felony charges he assaulted a police officer with a car during an incident in Dexter in which a handgun was fired.
Police say they’re not sure who fired the weapon.
Joseph Collins was charged Sunday with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon. He’s being held on $1,000 bail.
Dexter police Sgt. Kevin Wintle said Collins sideswiped Officer Gary Morin late Saturday night.
Morin suffered a shoulder injury and he will likely be out of work for several days.
The Bangor Daily News says the incident began when Morin was sent to investigate a report of a violation of a protective order. Collins later tried to flee in the car and Morin was hit.
