Lindsey Folsom hopes to accomplish two things Saturday at the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference A championship meet.

“I want to over 11 feet,” the Cony High School sophomore pole vaulter said.

The other goal is to beat Edward Little junior Jaclyn Masters.

The KVAC A and B championships are Saturday at Bowdoin College, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Waterville and Winslow are the top contenders for both KVAC B titles. Mt. Ararat, Brunswick and Edward Little will contend for the KVAC A titles.

Folsom and Masters enjoy a nice rivalry in the pole vault. Masters is the reigning the KVAC A outdoor champ in the event. She also defeated Folsom in a meet Jan. 22 at Bowdoin College.

“I really want to beat her this year,” Folsom said. “Eleven feet is pretty much where I want to go. I’ve been productively getting better. I haven’t had a weekend where I’ve gone down in heights.”

Added Cony coach Taylor Harmon: “That could be the battle of the day.”

There are several intriguing events Saturday as well.

Winslow senior Dominic Sintetos and Waterville senior Isaiah Spofford will renew their rivalry in a few sprinting events, including the 55-meter dash and 200.

The two squared off earlier this month, with Spofford winning both events.

“That will be an interesting matchup,” Winslow coach Bob Morison said. “It’s going to come down to matchups.”

Added Waterville coach Ian Wilson: “They have a really good sprinter in Sintetos. He’s really good but he happens to be in shadow of Spofford. In any other year he would be phenomenal.”

The Waterville boys also hope for strong performances from Alex Rowe (hurdles, triple jump) and Devin Burgess (pole vault).

Burgess enters seeded behind Winslow’s Ryan Turner, who recently cleared 12 feet, 6 inches.

“The pole vault will be a good matchup as well,” Morison said.

On the girls side, Olivia Thurston (200, hurdles), Bethany Brown (two-mile), Georgia Bolduc (55-meter dash) and Emily Sakal (shot put) lead a deep and talented Waterville team. Christine Parrilli (long jump) and Molly Schassberger (two mile) should also produce well for the Raiders.

Meaghan Collier, of Messalonskee, should also contend in the 800 and mile. Lawrence senior Sarah Quimby enters as a high seed in the high jump as well.

“I feel pretty confident that we have enough people in events to score enough points to challenge to win,” Wilson said. “We feel we have a strong team. But Winslow has a strong team for both the boys and girls. We’ll try to put up as many points as possible.”
