Veterans help
Veteran’s Service Officer Phyllis D’Orsay will be available to help veterans at the Windham Veterans Center on Wednesday, Feb. 9, from 9 a.m.-noon. She has office hours at the center the second and fourth Wednesdays each month. If you have questions of a military nature, stop in and get some answers. No appointment necessary. The Veterans Center is off Route 302, on Memorial Drive.
Snowmobile ?club news
On Saturday, Feb. 5, the Windham Drifters Snowmobile Club will host a Trivia Snowmobile Ride. Register from 11 a.m. behind Richardson’s Ski-doo in Windham. Test your knowledge of sports, movies, TV and more while enjoying some great snowmobile trails all in one day! Entry fee is $5. Prizes will be awarded for best scores. Call Deb at 892-8251 for more information. On Feb. 6, the Windham Drifters Junior Snowmobile Club will host a pancake breakfast at Applebee’s in Windham. Seating times are 8 a.m. and 8:45 a.m.; $5 per person includes pancakes, coffee, juice. For tickets and more information, contact Linda at 892-8348. All funds raised is used to maintain over 40 miles of local snowmobile trails in Windham which are used by snowmobilers, cross country skiers and hikers.
Program on toys
Ray Philpot from Windham will present a program on old toys on Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. for the White Rock Historical Society, at the White Rock Community Building on the Wilson Road in Gorham. Admission is free, donations welcome.
Hat day
On Jan. 26, the fourth-grade classes at the Manchester School celebrated Vocabulary Hat Day. Students selected a word and had to create a hat to signify the meaning of their words in a very creative way. They marched through the halls showing off their hats and ended in the school gym with a presentation of three selections from each classroom. The event was attended by School Board member Marge Govoni and several parents.

The 100th annual Windham High School Alumni Banquet will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2011. Big plans are in the works! Mark your calendar and watch for more details as time draws near.
Fab fifties
The 1959ers, Windham High School, got together at Pat’s Pizza recently for lunch and memories. Those attending included Joan (Brown) Kirk, Carlene (Batchelder) Crandall, Ellen (Kelley) Jordan, Pat (Winslow) Babyock, Jeanne (Allen) Stiles, Stella (Elliot)Mitchell, Janet (Ridlon) Elliot, Donna (Beal) Jasper, Betty (Reynolds) Roberts, Cecelia (Chandler) Termini, Liz (Timmons)Wisecup and Charlene (Littlefield) Wilson. Sandra (Peavey) Chute was unable to attend.
Chili cook-off
The Great Chili Challenge will be held Feb. 5 to benefit Windham Community Garden located on Route 202. Contact Rob Juergens at 807-5675 for more information. The chili challenge will take place at the North Windham Union Church Parish Hall on Saturday, Feb. 5, from 2 to 7 p.m. Bring your family, bring your friends and have a great time for a minimal cost.
Relay for Life kickoff Feb. 7
The Relay for Life of Sebago Lakes Region will be held June 25 and June 26 at Windham High School track. The event consists of teams of co-workers, families and neighbors coming together to support local American Cancer Society programs. A kickoff for the event will be held Monday, Feb. 7, at 6 p.m. at Windham High School cafeteria. Senior shopping van
You must call ahead for the Parks & Recreation Department’s popular weekly “Senior Shopping” trip to North Windham for senior citizens. To reserve a place, you must call by 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday for a ride on Wednesday’s trip. The cost is $3. Call 892-1905 for reservations and more information.
Monday meals
Food & Fellowship Inc. began in 1999 with a mission to provide hot meals to people living in Windham and surrounding communities in the Lakes Region. On Monday nights, free “Monday Meals” are served to anyone who would like a hot, nutritious meal. On the first and second Mondays, the site is Windham Assembly of God, 1051 Roosevelt Trail (Route 302); on the third and fourth Mondays, meals are served at Windham Hill United Church of Christ, 140 Windham Center Road and on the occasional fifth Monday, the table is set at Standish Congregational Church, 25 Oak Hill Road in Standish.
Thrift shop
Great bargains of all kinds can be found at North Windham Union Church Thrift Shop, Wednesday and Thursday from 1-3 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. Take a look! It’s downstairs!
