Love to scrapbook?

A Valentine’s scrapbooking event will be held at the American Legion in Gray on Saturday, Feb. 12, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The cost for the day of fun with friends is $30, and includes lunch provided by the American Legion. Proceeds will benefit the Gray Historical Society. Reservations are required to hold tables as there is limited seating. Contact Karen Taylor at 657-4783.

Let it snow

The Gray Sno Wolves Snowmobile Club’s WinterFest on Crystal Lake is March 5. It will feature radar runs, a fishing derby, poker run and more. Details coming soon. For more information, visit www.graysnowolves.com.

Yard sale

An Indoor Yard Sale will be held Saturday, Feb. 12, in the Newbegin Gymnasium. Doors are open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Those selling may arrive at 7 a.m. Tables are $15, two for $25. Bring your gently used items, crafts or new items for sale. There will also be a bake sale, hot/cold beverages, music and a festive atmosphere.

Eco-Excellence Awards

Eco-Excellence Awards are given annually in recognition of “green” activities by ecomaine nonprofit recycling and waste disposal operation.

The names of nominees for this year’s awards must be received at ecomaine by Friday, Feb. 18, along with a brief description of the nominee’s “green” activity. Awards are open to individuals, groups and businesses in any of the 40 communities of ecomaine.

Entry forms and information about previous winners can be found at www.ecomaine.org or requested by phoning 523-3108.

Last year’s winners included Gray-New Gloucester High School Community Service Club.

Entries will be judged by members of the ecomaine Recycling Committee. All the recipients and their nominators will be invited to an awards luncheon given in their honor in Portland on March 22.

Library events

On Friday, Feb. 4, the Gray Public Library will be closing at 12:30 p.m. for staff training. It will be open regular hours on Saturday, Feb. 5.

The library will be hosting a hand-braided reversible wool rug-making demonstration on Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 2 p.m. Come and learn how to braid your own rugs at home!

Photos wanted

Photos of Gray’s special places and or/people are wanted for Gray Community Endowment Inc. to use in its endowment fundraising brochure. They’re looking for photos of Wilkie’s Beach, Libby Hill, other lakes, the schools, the Monument, Pennell, or similar places that everyone can recognize as being part of Gray. Public supper

American Legion Post #86 on Route 100 in Gray will hold its next public supper on Feb. 5 from 5 to 6 p.m. The menu features baked beans, chop suey, cole slaw, hot dogs, brown and Italian breads, pie, coffee and punch.

The cost is $7 for those over 12, $2.50 for 5 to 12, free for under 5. Proceeds benefit veterans and their families and children in the area. For more information, call Nancy True at 657-2661 (cell 653-3886) or the Legion at 657-4884.

Marijuana moratorium hearing

The Gray Town Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m. at the Henry Pennell Municipal Complex at 24 Main St. to receive public comment on a consideration to implement a temporary moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries and cultivation operations. By the light ?of the moon

On Friday, Feb. 18, bring a headlamp and discover Libby Hill in Gray by snowshoe in the moonlight! A leisurely two-hour tour, both on- and off-trail, starts at 7 p.m. There are only 30 slots, and this event always fills quickly. Suggested donation is $10. Registration is required.
