WATERVILLE — Sam Canales scored with 1:30 left in overtime to lift Thornton Academy to a 4-3 win over Waterville in a Class A hockey game at Alfond Arena.

Waterville (6-4) forced overtime when Matt Lee scored with 12 seconds left in regulation.

The Trojans (5-3) took a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Andrew Carignan and Chris Maksut. Cook answered with a pair of power-play goals in the second period, both assisted by Lee, but Thornton regained the lead on Nick Chen’s goal midway through the third.

 

FALMOUTH 2, SOUTH PORTLAND 1: Brandon Tuttle scored on an assist from Alden Weller with 1:20 remaining to lift the Yachtsmen (3-3-2) over the Red Riots (3-4-1) at Family Ice Center.

Brendan Horton opened the scoring for South Portland 13 seconds into the second period. Falmouth tied it three minutes later on a goal by Billy Mullin.

South Portland goalie Dominic Desjardins finished with 39 saves. Jay Hurdman stopped 18 shots for Falmouth.

 

BIDDEFORD 4, SCARBOROUGH 2: Tyler Audie scored twice and Brady Fleurent had a goal and two assists for the Tigers (6-0-2), who built a 4-0 lead and held off the Red Storm (2-5) at Saco.

Scott Callahan started the scoring 23 seconds in. Fleurent and Audie added first-period goals, and Audie struck again in the second.

Nick Bagley had a goal and an assist for Scarborough. Zach Pettengill also scored.

YARMOUTH 3, GARDINER 2: Marshall Brunelle scored his second goal of the game to break a 2-2 tie 41 seconds into the second period, and the Clippers (6-4) held on for a win over the Tigers (3-7) at Travis Roy Arena.

Joey King also scored for Yarmouth and Eamon Costello collected two assists.

Both Gardiner goals were scored by Matt McDonald.

BASKETBALL

BIDDEFORD 56, SCARBOROUGH 51: Robert Cote scored 12 of his 21 points in the first half as the Tigers (4-6) built a 28-21 halftime lead and never trailed in the second half against the Red Storm (6-5) at Scarborough.

Chance Baldino added 14 points for Biddeford, which took control by outscoring the Red Storm 17-10 in the second quarter.

Scarborough was led by Zach Bean with 17 points and Mike Wofford with 13.

 

SANFORD 49, BONNY EAGLE 47: Jon Schroder scored in the paint off a pass from Jeremiah Colby with four seconds remaining to lift the Redskins (2-8) over the Scots (7-3) at Sanford.

Ryan Camire finished with 16 points to pace Sanford. Schroder and Colby added eight points apiece.

Bonny Eagle was led by Steve Simonds with 14 points and Levi Meggison with 12.

WELLS 52, FALMOUTH 40: Alex Furness scored 19 points and Bill Wang had 18 to lead the Warriors (6-4) past the visiting Yachtsmen (5-5).

Furness also had six rebounds and four assists. Paul McDonough chipped in five assists. Wells led 30-14 at halftime.

Jack Cooleen and Mike Lafond each had eight points for Falmouth.

 

WISCASSET 67, GEORGES VALLEY 58: Jordan Jones went 9 for 10 from the foul line in the fourth quarter and finished with 25 points to lead the Redskins (9-2) as past the Buccaneers (3-8) at Thomaston.

Ashton Benn added 17 points, including five 3-pointers, and Tyler Sonia scored 13 for Wiscasset.

Georges Valley was led by Dylan Maloney with 16 points.

 

ISLESBORO 59, SEACOAST CHRISTIAN 36: Jason Hatch collected 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Gerard Scherr made four 3-pointers and finished with 18 points to lead the Eagles (9-1) past the Guardians (3-5) at Islesboro.

DJ Johnson scored his 1,000th career point on his first basket of the game, a 3-pointer in the first quarter, and finished with 17 points for the Eagles.

Seacoast was led by Jay Archer with 11 points and Caleb Archer with 10.

WATERVILLE 50, OAK HILL 31: Max Brown scored 19 points and Brandon Braley added 18 to lead the Purple Panthers (2-9) past the Raiders (3-8) at Waterville.

Cody Provost led Oak Hill with 14 points.

 

LEAVITT 42, MCI 39: The Hornets (10-1) outscored the Huskies 12-4 in the fourth quarter at Pittsfield.

Jordan Hersom led Leavitt with 20 points. Tyler Maloon paced MCI (2-8) with 13 points.
