NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Tyler Kelley’s three-point play with 22.7 seconds left gave St. Joseph’s College an 84-83 lead as the Monks edged Albertus Magnus 86-83 in a college men’s basketball game Monday.
Kelley finished with 32 points, including seven of the 14 3-pointers scored by the Monks (9-4, 6-1 GNAC). Zach O’Brien added 21 points and Chris Petzy chipped in 17.
Ray Askew had 29 points and 14 rebounds for the Falcons (7-6, 5-2).
(5) PITT 74, (3) SYRACUSE 66: The Panthers (18-1, 6-0 Big East) scored the first 19 points only to lose the lead, then came back behind Nasir Robinson’s 21 points to hand the visiting Orange (18-1, 5-1) their first loss.
Brad Wanamaker added 15 points for the Panthers.
(8) UCONN 61, (7) VILLANOVA 59: Kemba Walker hit a drive down the lane with 2.5 seconds to play to help the Huskies (15-2, 4-2 Big East) top the Wildcats (16-2, 4-1) in Storrs, Conn.
(13) MISSOURI 75, KANSAS STATE 59: Marcus Denmon scored 10 of his 14 points in the second half and the Tigers (16-3, 2-2 Big 12) forced the Wildcats (13-6, 1-3) into 24 turnovers.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
ST. JOSEPH’S 70, JOHNSON & WALES 44: Megan McDevitt and Ashley Geel scored 12 points each and Lindsay Moore added 11 points and 10 rebounds as the Monks (10-5, 2-1 GNAC) downed the Wildcats (4-11, 1-2) at Standish.
(2) UCONN 83, (10) NORTH CAROLINA 57: Tiffany Hayes scored 29 points and Maya Moore had 26 to help the Huskies (17-1) roll past the Tar Heels (16-2) at Chapel Hill, N.C.
The Huskies scored the game’s first eight points to give themselves a comfortable margin then scored the first 12 of the second half to blow the game open.
The Huskies shot 49 percent despite cooling off late.
