GORHAM – The University of Southern Maine rallied from a 17-point halftime deficit to defeat Eastern Connecticut State 73-66 Saturday in a Little East women’s basketball game.
Erin McNamara, Courtney Cochran and Renee Nicholas combined for 36 points in the second half for the Huskies (9-6, 4-1 Little East), who trailed by three with four minutes left before going on a 10-0 run to take a 69-62 lead over the Warriors (10-4, 4-1).
BINGHAMTON 78, MAINE 52: Andrea Holmes had 20 points and the Bearcats (10-7, 3-1 America East) took a 37-19 halftime lead and rolled past the Black Bears (3-14, 1-4) at Orono.
Amber Smith paced Maine with 13 points. Ali Nalivaika, Ashleigh Roberts and Katelyn Vanderhoff added 10 points each.
SALVE REGINA 71, UNE 63: The Seahawks (11-3, 3-0 Commonwealth Coast) used an 11-0 run to take a 51-47 lead with 8:29 remaining and held off the Nor’easters (9-6, 2-1) at Newport, R.I.
Kelley Paradis and Margo Russell each scored 16 for UNE.
ST. JOSEPH’S 65, RIVIER 64: Ashley Geel had 20 points and eight rebounds and hit the winning free throw with 1.2 seconds left as the Monks (9-5, 1-1 GNAC), edged Raiders (4-11, 2-1) at Nashua, N.H.
BATES 72, MIDDLEBURY 58: Christine McCall had 16 points and eight rebounds to lead the Bobcats (12-4, 1-1 NESCAC) over the Panthers (9-3, 0-2) at Lewiston.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
MAINE 77, BINGHAMTON 51: Troy Barnies scored 21 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead Maine (10-7, 4-1 America East) to a rout against Binghamton (6-11, 3-1) at Orono.
Maine stretched its lead to 60-32 on a layup from Mike Allison with 11:56 left to play and led by at least 16 the rest of the way and by as many as 35, 72-37, with 4:47 to play.
E. CONN. STATE 86, USM 76: Nick Nedwick scored 29 points as the Warriors (11-3, 4-1 Little East) rallied from a five-point halftime deficit to beat the Huskies (9-6, 1-4) at Gorham.
Southern Maine was paced by Corteze Isaac, who made five 3-pointers and had 36 points.
ST. JOSEPH’S 76, LASELL 70: Zach O’Brien had 25 points and Chris Petzy scored 16 to lead the Monks (8-4, 5-1 GNAC) to a win over the Lasers (3-9, 2-4) at Newton, Mass.
Julio Vazquez added 13 points for St. Joseph’s.
MIDDLEBURY 78, BATES 65: Nolan Thompson scored seven of his 22 points in the first half as the Panthers (13-0, 2-0 NESCAC) built a 10-point lead and held off the Bobcats (8-8, 0-2) at Lewiston.
Brian Ellis scored 21 points and Alex Gallant added 20 to lead the Bobcats.
BOWDOIN 74, COLBY 61: Will Hanley had 22 points, 19 rebounds and eight assists to lead the Polar Bears (11-2, 1-0 NESCAC) past the Mules (8-7, 0-1) at Waterville.
Justin Nowell chipped in 13 points for Bowdoin, which led 37-25 at halftime and opened the second half with an 11-5 run.
Mike Russell led Colby with 20 points and 17 rebounds.
SALVE REGINA 75, UNE 58: Ryan Birrell had 26 points to lead the Seahawks (7-7, 1-2 TCCC) past the Nor’easters (2-13, 0-3) at Newport, R.I.
Ryan Knotek and Marcus Winn each had 13 points for UNE.
WOMEN’S HOCKEY
NORTHEASTERN 3, MAINE 2: Lori Antflick broke a 1-1 tie at 8:21 of the third and Julia Marty added an empty-net goal with 1:26 remaining to help the Huskies (13-5-4, 5-3-3 Hockey East) hold off the Black Bears (9-10-4, 3-6-2) at Boston.
Jennie Gallo scored for Maine with 25 seconds left after the Black Bears pulled their goalie.
UMASS-BOSTON 3, USM 1: Brittany Usmail broke a 1-1 tie with 7:08 left as the Beacons (7-6, 4-5 ECAC) beat the Huskies (3-10-1, 2-7-1) at Gorham.
Jana Sacco gave Southern Maine a lead 12 minutes into the second, but Jacqui Rooney tied it less than four minutes later.
BOWDOIN 3, HAMILTON 1: Michaela Calnan broke a 1-1 tie early in the second and Kayla Lessard made 28 saves as the Polar Bears (8-4-1, 5-2 NESCAC) beat the Continentals (4-7, 3-4) at Clinton, N.Y.
MEN’S HOCKEY
BOWDOIN 8, UNE 0: Daniel Weiniger had three goals and two assists as Bowdoin (10-2, 7-2 ECAC/NESCAC) downed UNE (2-11, 0-9) at Brunswick.
COLBY 4, USM 1: Karl Burns had a goal and an assist as the Mules (4-8-1, 3-5-1) beat the Huskies (4-8-2) at Waterville.
Jason Olson scored for USM.
CONN. COLLEGE 3, COLBY 2: After Samantha Slotnick scored the tying goal for the visiting Mules (5-9, 1-6 NESCAC), Courtney Dumont scored with 27 seconds remaining to lift the Camels (6-7, 4-5) to a win.
