PORTLAND — Both lanes of traffic on the Casco Bay Bridge have reopened to traffic.

Mark Latti, a spokesman for the Maine Department of Transportation, said a buildup of ice from Wednesday’s snowstorm had to be removed from the bridge’s footings before the travel lanes from South Portland to Portland could be reopened.

The shutdown lasted for nearly two hours.

PORTLAND — There is a major disruption of traffic on the Casco Bay Bridge as the state tries to repair a malfunction.

Chris Webster, the bridge operator, said the malfunction was reported around 4 p.m. Webster said a repair person from Casco is on their way.

The bridge deck is down, but Webster said the nature of the problem has yet to be determined.

Webster said that traffic can drive across the bridge from Portland to South Portland, but bridge traffic heading into Portland from South Portland is being re-routed. He’s not sure how long the delay will last.

Marine traffic is also being told not to approach the bridge until the problem can be fixed, according to the United States Coast Guard.
