SANFORD — Sanford police are investigating a bank robbery that took place this afternoon at the Sanford Institute for Savings, 900 Main St.

Deputy Chief Craig Sanford said the robbery took place in the Springvale branch sometime after 3 p.m., but he could not offer a description of the suspect.

Sanford said the suspect entered the bank and demanded money, but he was not certain if the person was given any cash. He was also not sure if the suspect was armed.

The robber remains at large.
