Of course you’ve tried Portland Pie Co. Pizzeria and Pub, right?

With restaurants in Portland, Scarborough and — my local favorite — Westbrook, the eating and drinking spot has become hard to miss. The first location opened in 1997, and Portland Pie specializes in gourmet pizzas, appetizers, salads and sandwiches. It’s known as a place where friends can gather, families can relax, and just about everyone can find something they like on the menu.

The Westbrook Portland Pie is on busy Main Street. There are plenty of tables for large groups in the dining room, oversized booths for families, and 10 seats in the bar area. With four strategically located televisions, you can see the game in any spot in the joint, which is always a plus for those big NFL and college football days.

Just like the other much-loved Portland Pie locations, the beer is really cold here. On draft, try Sebago’s Frye’s Leap IPA, Shipyard Export, Shipyard Prelude, Geary’s HSA and Miller Lite. Portland Pie offers Beer Flights, which allow visitors to sample 4 ounces of four beers on tap. There’s also a huge bottled selection including Amstel Light, Corona, Gritty’s Seasonal, Sam Adams and Coors Light. No beer costs more than $4.

The wine list, served by the glass or the bottle, also has Wine Flights for $8.

Like mead? Try the Maine Mead with 100 percent wildflower and honey for $7. There’s also a full slate of hard liquor for York St. Margaritas or a Casco Bay Breeze.

The Westbrook Portland Pie features a mug club. For $25 a year, you get 20-ounce beers for the 16-ounce price, and the total is applied to your frequent PIE-er program. For every $300 spent, you get $25 dollars back, a free meal (up to $10) on your birthday, and half-price bottles of wine Monday though Wednesday. I signed up, because how can you lose with a deal like that?

When it comes to food, it doesn’t matter if you are the world’s pickiest eater. At Portland Pie, there are too many pies to choose from — vegetarian, meat lovers, with or without sauce or cheese and gluten-free crust. Favorites include the Harbormaster (barbecue chicken, caramelized onion and smoked bacon, $11.49 for a 10-inch) and the Great Diamond (no red sauce, garlic and olive oil and mozzarella cheese). The Matinicus (red sauce, sliced prosciutto and cream cheese-stuffed pepperoncini peppers) is a new addition.

Not in a pizza mood? Try homemade cheese lasagna or the Grand Lake sandwich with hummus, red peppers, carrots, tomatoes and cucumbers.

Portland Pie knows how to throw a happy hour. From 3 to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, get 10-inch pies for $5.99. Every day of the week there are cheap beer or food specials, including a tailgating party on Sunday that you do not want to miss.

Portland Pie employees are a great group of people. I am happy to give them my business. The fact that Portland Pie Co. frequently hosts charity events makes it all the better. Keep it up, folks.
