Japanese fiction program
The Kennebunk Free Library has been selected by the Maine Humanities Council to offer “Family and Self in 20th Century Japanese Fiction,” a Let’s Talk About It free reading and discussion group. The group will be facilitated by former college professor Patricia Parker, who also taught in Japan and South Korea.

Two Rabies Plus clinics
The Coastal Humane Society will host Rabies Plus! Clinics from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Harpswell Town Hall, Mountain Road, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Jan. 15 at the Cumberland Town Hall, 290 Tuttle Road.
The clinics will both offer ear cleaning and nail trimming for $5 and $10 each, respectively, and microchipping for $25 per pet. Rabies vaccinations are available for dogs and cats only at $10 each. Please bring previous rabies certificates if possible.

Green burials discussion
Eva Thompson, a trustee for the Funeral Consumers’ Alliance of Maine, will give the talk “Green Burials” at noon on Tuesday at Merryspring Nature Center, 30 Conway Road. The talk will include information on Maine’s burial laws and affordable and natural ways to oversee the burial of a loved one.
