WESTBROOK – Westbrook police arrested three people on drug trafficking Tuesday, including a man who lives near the Cornelia Warren Recreational Fields.

According to a press release from Westbrook police Lt. Michael Nugent, local police and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency conducted a joint investigation into suspected drug activity at the home of Arthur F. Nye, 50. Nye lives at 110 Brown St., which is within 1,000 feet of the fields designated as a drug-free safe zone.

The proximity to the fields could result in enhanced charges, Nugent said.

At around 6:20 p.m. Tuesday, the investigation resulted in the arrests of Nye and Windham residents Kevin G. Cloutier, 44, and Sherry A. Piper, 52. Nye and Cloutier were arrested during a traffic stop on Ash Street, while police arrested Piper later on Brown Street, police said.

Nye was charged with aggravated trafficking of Schedule W drugs, a Class A felony because he has a previous conviction of felony drug trafficking, Nugent said. Cloutier and Piper were both charged with unlawful possession of Schedule W drugs, he said.

Nugent did not know which drug Nye was charged with trafficking, but did say Cloutier was allegedly in possession of crack cocaine and Piper also had a form of cocaine.

When officers executed a search warrant at 110 Brown St., they found additional evidence of drug trafficking, police said. The case remains under investigation.

None of the suspects were listed as inmates at Cumberland County Jail as of Wednesday afternoon. Bail conditions were not immediately available.
