Tom Butler transforms himself into Ebenezer Scrooge for a performance of “A Christmas Carol” at Portland Stage Company on Thursday night. Butler has previously appeared at Portland Stage in “Bach at Leipzig,” “Two Rooms” and “Magnetic North” but it is his first time in the role of Scrooge. The production of the Charles Dickens classic, the 15th annual for Portland Stage, runs through Dec. 24.
