WESTBROOK – A team of local celebrities will be taking the floor at the Westbrook High School gym next Wednesday, Nov. 17 to face off against the Harlem Superstars in a charity basketball game.
The Harlem Superstars, a showtime comedy basketball team in the vein of the Harlem Globetrotters, will have to overcome the home court advantage of the vaunted Westbrook Warriors squad in this contest, which will benefit the Westbrook High School class of 2013. The game time is 6:30 p.m.
Warrior coaches Ray “the Bear” Richardson, a local radio talk show host; Marc Gousse, Westbrook High School principal and Conner Richardson, Westbrook High class of 2013, have assembled a talent-packed team of local all-stars to take on the high-flying, trick-shooting, slam-dunking Superstars.
Taking the floor for the Warriors will be: Katelyn Benson, Westbrook High class of 2011; Vanessa Bradbury, Westbrook High class of 2011; Keenen Lowe, Westbrook High class of 2013; Aaron Duncanson, Westbrook High class of 2013; Tim “E” Eisenhart, Westbrook High School teacher; William Leque, Westbrook High School teacher; Travis McCutcheon, Westbrook High School teacher/coach; Dr. Reza “ The Boss” Namin, Westbrook school superintendent; Dennis “Too Tall” Healy, South Portland police dispatcher; Steve “Link Skywalker” Noyes, drummer for local legends Motor Booty Affair; Steve “38 Special” Webster, South Portland police detective; Les “The Otdog” Otten, Maine business leader; Lee “Goldie” Goldberg, WCSH-6 sportscaster; Jeff “Thumbs” Peterson, WGME-13 news anchor; John “The Gov.” Baldacci, Maine governor; Ed “The Chairman” Symbol, Westbrook school committee chairman and Emmitt Pickett of the Maine Hysterical Society.
The Superstars will counter that display of local talent with: Wayne “Above and Beyond” Clark, a 6-foot, 3-inch ex-Harlem Globetrotter who holds the Guinness world record for the highest vertical jump for a slam dunk in pro basketball at 70 inches; Kevin “Showboat” Jackson, a 10-year veteran who appeared in the film “He Got Game” with Denzell Washington and the Boston Celtics’ Ray Allen; Ricky Lopes, who played professionally overseas and has appeared on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” and “The Late Show with David Letterman”; Chris “Super Chicken” Turnquist, a former member of the Bahamian national team and Mark “Hollywood” Jones, who played for the University of Dayton in the NCAA tournament.
Besides the basketball game, the night will feature audience participation and a halftime show where 20-30 local kids selected from the audience will get the chance to show off their basketball skills.
