BIDDEFORD — No one was injured in a fire that gutted a 10-unit apartment complex at 22 Cutts St. Tuesday night, according to Biddeford Fire Deputy Chief Paul LaBrecque. But, he said, it’s too early to tell what exactly caused the fire.
The fire department was called to the scene at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, said LaBrecque. The fire was extinguished by about 4:30 a.m. this morning.
The 12 people who lived in the four occupied units of the multi-unit complex were already getting out of the building when firefighters arrived at the scene, said LaBrecque.
The Red Cross came to the scene to assist tenants with lodging for the night, he said.
Tenants said they believed the fire started on the porch, said Maine State Fire Marshall Investigator Daniel Young, who was at the scene this morning.
However, he said, that report hasn’t been confirmed.
“We have a lot more work to do,” said Young.
Tenants, who were questioned early this morning, will be interviewed again, said Young. Neighbors will also be interviewed over the next few days to see if they saw anything that may be pertinent to the investigation.
The property is owned by C D & P L.L.C., according to the city’s property assessment records on the City of Biddeford website.
