SANFORD — Victoria Nappi scored a first-half goal Tuesday and fifth-seeded Cheverus went on to a 1-0 victory against fourth-ranked Sanford in a Western Class A girls’ soccer quarterfinal.
Abby Maker sent the ball in from the left side and it drifted through the goal mouth to Nappi, who tapped it in with about 11 minutes left in the half.
Midfielder Deidre Lambert of the Stags (11-3-1) stopped a late scoring chance after positioning herself behind her goalie, Jessica Krause (two saves), and deflecting a shot over the net.
Sanford (11-3-1) had four corner kicks in the closing minutes and had a shot hit the post in the first half.
BRUNSWICK 4, ERSKINE ACADEMY 0: Ali Walton scored twice to lead the top-ranked Dragons (15-0) over the eighth-seeded Eagles (4-8-3) in an Eastern Class A quarterfinal at Brunswick.
HAMPDEN ACADEMY 2, MORSE 1: Chelsea Kuzio’s 18-yard shot skipped low over the grass and just under Emma Seeley’s arms for the winning goal with three minutes left in overtime as fifth-seeded Hampden Academy (10-3-2) beat the fourth-ranked Shipbuilders (9-4-2) in an Eastern Class A quarterfinal at Bath.
YORK 5, MARANACOOK 0: Outside back Addie Labonte and stopper Stephanie Gallagher each had two goals as the second-seeded Wildcats (11-1-3) downed the seventh-ranked Black Bears (7-7-1) in a Western Class B quarterfinal at York.
CAMDEN HILLS 3, JOHN BAPST 1: Melanie Vandel had two goals and set up another as the second-seeded Windjammers (13-2) handled the seventh-ranked Crusaders (8-5-2) in an Eastern Class B quarterfinal at Rockport.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH 1, DIRIGO 0 (PKs): Kelsey Koenigs scored the winning goal in the second round of penalty kicks and Gillian Foster turned away a final shot as the fifth-seeded Seagulls (9-5-1) knocked off fourth-ranked Dirigo (10-4-1) in a Western Class C quarterfinal at Dixfield.
After a scoreless regulation and overtime, each team hit 3 of 5 penalty kicks. In the second round of penalty kicks, Koenigs gave the Seagulls a 2-1 lead with their final shot before Foster’s save ended it.
WAYNFLETE 1, GEORGES VALLEY 0: Ella Millard scored in overtime as the sixth-seeded Flyers (7-6-1) beat the third-ranked Buccaneers (12-2-1) in a Western Class C quarterfinal at Thomaston.
SACOPEE VALLEY 5, JAY 1: Emily Lane had two goals and an assist as the the second-seeded Hawks (13-1-1) defeated the seventh-ranked Tigers (6-7-2) in a Western Class C quarterfinal at South Hiram.

WAYNFLETE 4, MT. ABRAM 0: Tucker Geoffroy had two goals as the third-seeded Flyers (11-1-2) defeated the sixth-ranked Roadrunners (5-4-6) in a Western Class C quarterfinal at Portland.
