Mill Creek Park Gazebo Dedication, at 10:30 a.m., Mill Creek, South Portland. The new location of the Gazebo is one of the many park improvements contained in the Mill Creek Park Master Plan recently developed by landscape architect Regina Leonard. E-waste Recycling Event and Fund-raiser, for the Food Cupboard of South Portland, at Scarborough Public Works on Washington Avenue in Scarborough, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The event is open to all; there are no residency requirements. A $2 per item donation will be collected. Quotes can be provided for truck or carloads. Items that will be accepted include: household electronics (TVs, DVD players, VCRs, radios, stereos), microwave ovens, computers, peripherals (keyboard, mouse, scanner, printer, etc.), batteries, cell phones, games and consoles and copier or printer cartridges. The public is also encouraged to bring nonperishable canned goods, health and beauty aids and dish and laundry detergents for the Food Cupboard. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Food Cupboard of South Portland and the Scarborough Rotary Club. For more information, contact John Murphy at 883-4327.

“Is Assisted Living in your future?”, 6:30-7:30 p.m., Scarborough Public Library, with Southern Maine Assisted Living Education Group. This program is free and open to the public. Scarborough Historical Society monthly meeting, at the Scarborough Historical Museum at 7:30 p.m. The museum is located in Dunstan Corner next to the fire station. Michael McCormick will present a program about Civil War re-enactments and Maine’s involvement in that war. He is also expected to show various artifacts from that conflict. There will be refreshments and the public is always welcome.

Saturday, Nov. 6

Scarborough Young Life 5K Run/Walk, 9 a.m. start. Registration 7:30-8:30 a.m. at high school tennis courts. Kids’ 1-mile race at 8:30. Medals to top three places in each age group, technical T-shirts to first 100 registrants, raffle prizes, coffee, and homemade baked goods. $18 preregistration at www.active.com.
