FAIRFIELD – Two people were killed in a two-car crash Wednesday evening at the entrance of a Big Apple Store on Route 139.
A red Ford Focus turning left toward the store crossed into the path of a black Audi sedan traveling west on Route 139, an eyewitness said.
Police confirmed that two people in the Ford, described by the witness as elderly, were killed, but didn’t release their names. The driver of the Audi walked away from the accident.
One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics were working to keep the other alive as a LifeFlight helicopter landed in the middle of the road at 6 p.m. That person died in the ambulance, police said.
Lee Ann Chapman was sitting in her Jeep, waiting to turn out of the Big Apple parking lot, as the driver of the Ford turned into the same driveway.
Chapman said she got out of her car after the crash, called 911 and went to help the people in the Ford, whom she described as an elderly couple.
