Scarborough’s Felt and York’s Keating among finalists for Miss Field Hockey Award

Kristen Felt of Scarborough and Hannah Keating of York are two of the four finalists for the Miss Maine Field Hockey Award, the Maine Field Hockey Association said Tuesday.

The award, given to the state’s outstanding senior player, will be presented at the Maine Field Hockey Association’s annual banquet on Dec. 5 at the Augusta Civic Center.

Felt has 12 goals and 17 assists for the Red Storm, top-ranked in Western Class A, while Keating has four goals and nine assists for York, top-ranked in Western Class B.

The two center midfielders are joined by Mt. View’s Hailey Kein and Gardiner’s Becca Paradee, also both center midfielders.

BASEBALL

MAJOR LEAGUES: Pitcher Ted Lilly passed on the opportunity to test the free-agent market, signing a three-year, $33 million deal to return to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Lilly received a $3.5 million signing bonus to be paid over three years, his agent Larry O’Brien said. The deal includes a full no-trade clause in the first two seasons.

nIndians Coach Sandy Alomar interviewed for the manger’s job in Toronto, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press. It was Alomar’s third interview with the Blue Jays, with the first two taking place over the phone.

BASKETBALL

NBA: Boston Celtics Coach Doc Rivers said that he is cancer-free after having a biopsy Sunday morning. His doctor found a spot on his throat three weeks ago and he decided to have it checked.

ROONEY WANTS OUT: Manchester United Manager Alex Ferguson confirmed that Wayne Rooney wants to leave the Premier League club.

Ferguson said the 24-year-old Rooney called off contract negotiations in August. The England striker’s deal at United runs out in the summer of 2012.

Ferguson said he was “dumbfounded” by Rooney’s decision, adding: “Only months before, he was saying he was at the greatest club in the world.”

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Real Madrid defeated AC Milan 2-0 in a showdown of Champions League powers, while Chelsea, Arsenal and Bayern Munich also won for the third straight time.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored from a free kick and then set up Mesut Oezil’s goal with less than 15 minutes left, helping nine-time winner Madrid assert its authority in Group G over seven-time champion Milan.

MISCELLANEOUS

Serena Williams is done for the season, stating that she “re-tore the tendon” in her right foot, which she originally injured by cutting it on glass at a restaurant shortly after winning Wimbledon in July. Williams says she had “another procedure to repair” the tendon on Monday. … Top-seeded Elena Dementieva defeated Peng Shuai 7-5, 7-6 (3) to reach the second round of the Luxembourg Open.
