CASCO — State Police investigators will meet with game wardens and the state Medical Examiner to discuss the shooting death of a Casco man over the weekend.
Richard “Jake” Jacobson, 47, died Saturday on Rattlesnake Mountain in Casco.
Police would not characterize the shooting other than to say it was not hunting-related and the gun discharged in the hands of a young boy. Friends have said that Jacobson was planning to go target shooting and had been with one of his sons earlier in the day, though it was not clear whether his son was to accompany him.
The meeting today was scheduled to take place at the State Police crime laboratory in Augusta.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
