STANDISH – Three Standish men were apprehended by a Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office tactical team as well as Maine Drug Enforcement Agency agents in a “no-knock” drug bust early Monday morning on Route 114 in Standish.
The three men arrested include 50-year-old Dale Porter, his 18-year-old son Jesse Porter, and 25-year-old Dale Swasey. A fourth man, Emille Joseph Quimby of 41 Main Street in Steep Falls, remains at large.
Swasey is charged with possession of cocaine and is being held on $250 cash bail at Cumberland County Jail. Dale Porter faces a charge of aggravated trafficking of marijuana with cash bail set at $10,000. Jesse Porter faces charges of possession of a stolen handgun, reckless conduct with a firearm and possession of scheduled drug (ecstasy). He is also being held on $10,000 cash bail.
The three men were still sleeping when a tactical team burst into their 450 Richville Road, Standish residence at 7 a.m. Chief Deputy Kevin Joyce said the early morning raid was necessary since an anonymous tip had revealed the men were heavily armed.
When police arrived, they found several assault weapons including a fully automatic Russian-made AK-47 as well as an MP-5 semi-automatic assault rifle. Joyce said each weapon had long-range sights. “They were not your average go-out-and-go-hunting rifle. They are used for military applications. That was a huge threat,” Joyce said of the weapons, which he said were capable of piercing body armor.
In addition to the assault rifles, deputies found a couple of shotguns, another rifle, and several stolen handguns with serial numbers partially scratched off. Joyce estimated the street value of the weapons at between $5,000 and $7,000.
In addition, deputies found several pounds of processed marijuana, $4,700 in cash, crack cocaine and heroin.
The information as to the drug activity came from an online tip line the Sheriff’s Office has set up and which has proven to be useful, Joyce said.
“We have (a request for anonymous tips) on Facebook and our website and we get tips all the time, whether for suspended drivers or people dealing drugs,” Joyce said. “With this one, the tip came in of people dealing drugs in Standish and so we investigated.”
Joyce said the original tip included an allegation that the three men were involved in dealing drugs at a local school. However, during the course of the investigation, that information was not corroborated.
“It’s obviously more of a concern when a school is involved, but we were not able to confirm that information,” Joyce said.
While the significant amount of drugs, guns and money have been taken off Standish streets, an associate of the three arrested men, Quimby, still remains at large, Joyce said. So far, Joyce said deputies are following leads that point to Quimby’s location somewhere in northern Maine.
The 34-year-old Quimby is listed as 6-feet-3-inches tall, 220 pounds with blond hair and blue eyes. He is wanted on a charge of unlawful trafficking of drugs.
